UK Home Office Expands Digital ‘View and Prove’ Immigration Services
The UK Home Office continues to expand its digital immigration services as part of the wider transition to eVisas and online immigration status management.
The latest developments reinforce the government’s move away from physical immigration documents and towards a fully digital system where migrants can access, manage, and prove their immigration status online through their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
For millions of visa holders, settled status holders, and those with immigration permission in the UK, the “View and Prove” service is becoming an increasingly important tool for everyday life.
What Is the ‘View and Prove’ Service?
The View and Prove service allows individuals to securely access their immigration status online.
Through their UKVI account, users can:
- View their immigration status (eVisa)
- Check the conditions attached to their permission to stay in the UK
- Generate a share code
- Prove their right to work
- Prove their right to rent
- Demonstrate eligibility for certain services and benefits
- Update personal information linked to their immigration record
Rather than relying on physical documents, the system provides a digital record of immigration status that can be accessed whenever needed.
What Is an eVisa?
An eVisa is an online record of a person’s immigration status and identity.
The Home Office explains that an eVisa contains:
- Immigration status details
- Visa type
- Length of permission granted
- Conditions attached to the visa, such as work or study rights
The introduction of eVisas forms part of the Home Office’s wider programme to replace physical immigration documents including Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs), and visa vignette stickers in passports.
How the Share Code System Works
One of the most important features of the View and Prove service is the ability to generate a share code.
A share code allows employers, landlords, educational institutions, and other authorised organisations to verify a person’s immigration status online.
According to GOV.UK, share codes are valid for 90 days and can be used multiple times before they expire. New share codes can be generated whenever required.
The system is designed to reduce paperwork while providing a secure way for third parties to verify immigration status directly with Home Office records.
