Malaysia Rolls Out Digital Nomad Pass
Malaysia has rolled out a digital nomad visa to attract local and international professionals all over the world who can work remotely.
Malaysia’s new ‘digital nomad’ scheme is called the DE Rantau Nomad Pass.
The programme is designed to establish Malaysia as the preferred digital nomad hub in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), to boost digital adoption and promote digital professional mobility and tourism across Malaysia.
Currently, remote workers from eligible countries such as the UK, the EU, and the US can work in Malaysia for up to 90 days, but under the new rules, visa holders could soon stay for up to two years.
The De Rantau Programme will open to applicants on 01 Oct 2022.

Who Can Apply For The Digital Nomad Pass
The programme will be open to those earning at least £21,000 ($24,000) per year, which makes it quite a bit more affordable than a few other similar schemes.
To be eligible for Malaysia’s DE Rantau pass, applicants need to be either employed full-time or part-time, either on a contract or as a freelancer, and be able to show proof of three months of employment.
The scheme is essentially aimed at people working in the IT industry, but there are no actual restrictions on who can apply.
Once granted, holders of the nomad pass will be able to stay in Malaysia for up to 12 months with the option to extend for another 12 months.
The initial visa fee is MYR 1,000 (£190) and ‘dependents’ (spouses or children), will cost an extra MYR 500 (£95) each.
Malaysia's fiercest competition in attracting digital nomads is Indonesia. In Indonesia, Bali has established itself as an international remote worker magnet.
