Shortage occuppations: 200 Filipino nurses to start work in Gloucestershire.

NHS bosses are travelling overseas to bring in hundreds of nurses. Why? Well because they can't find the staff in the UK.

Two hundred Filipino nurses will be soon be starting work in Gloucestershire following an overseas recruitment commute.

Managers have travelled to Portugal and Spain too in a bid to recruit more nurses and a travel was also made to India in a pursuit to scout registrars.

Dr Frank Harsent, the chief executive of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “One of the major questions is whether we can get the staff. It really depends on what discipline you are looking to recruit for.” and, also added “We are bringing in 200 nurses from the Philippines who were recruited back in December.”

Councillor David Drew, who represents Stroud District Council on the committee, said the pre-cursor to the problems the hospitals faced in January was the staffing shortage across the country: “I suppose we can recruit from abroad but that is not sustainable in the long term,” he said.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is currently running a recruitment commute for nurses.
