Croatia to Extend EU Blue Card Validity To 4 Years
Croatia plans to double the validity of the EU Blue Card from two to four years, making it easier for highly skilled workers to stay longer in the country. This change, part of upcoming updates to the Aliens Act, aims to attract more qualified foreign professionals to address workforce shortages.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković highlighted that the extension would both solve labour gaps and provide better opportunities for skilled workers. Foreign Minister Davor Božinović added that the reforms also aim to widen eligibility, particularly for IT professionals without formal qualifications but with proven experience.
As of September 30, Croatia has issued 158,837 work and residence permits, with most going to workers in industries like construction and tourism.
To qualify for the EU Blue Card in Croatia, applicants must meet criteria such as holding a valid job offer, meeting a minimum annual salary of €24,845.64, and having relevant qualifications or experience.
The processing time for the card is 30-60 days, with an initial fee of €74.32.
Several EU countries, including Croatia, have been simplifying Blue Card rules to attract more foreign talent.
