Czechia Lifts Work Visa Requirement For Select Non-EU Countries
The Czech Republic has introduced a significant change to its Employment Act, simplifying the process for foreign nationals to work in the country.
As of July 1, 2024, citizens from seven non-EU countries can access the Czech labour market without needing a work permit.
Citizens of the following countries now enjoy free access to the Czech labour market:
- Australia
- Canada
- Israel
- Japan
- New Zealand
- Singapore
- South Korea
- The United Kingdom
- The United States
Previously, foreign nationals from these countries needed to obtain a work permit, such as an employee card or blue card, to work in Czechia. Now, they only need authorisation to stay in the country, simplifying the process significantly.
While work permits are no longer required, citizens from these countries still need to apply for a residence permit if they plan to stay long-term.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs recommends checking the Information Portal for Foreigners for detailed information on residence permits and visa types.
For citizens of the listed countries already living and working in Czechia, this change means they no longer need to apply for or renew work permits, easing their administrative load.
The new policy aims to attract highly skilled workers to support the growth of the Czech economy. By reducing the administrative burden on employers and speeding up the hiring process, Czechia hopes to draw in top talent from around the world.
This policy change marks a significant step towards making the Czech labour market more accessible to highly skilled workers from around the world.
