UK Holidaymakers Warned as Italy Braces for Strikes

Holidaymakers heading to Italy this week may face travel disruptions due to a nationwide general strike on March 8, affecting air, rail, and road travel.

Supported by the SLAI-COBAS, CUB, and USI-CIT unions, the strike could impact flights, particularly with British Airways, EasyJet, and Ryanair, affecting 8,000 to 11,000 passengers. Major routes like London-Rome, London-Milan, Manchester-Rome and Edinburgh-Milan are at risk.

Railway company Trenord has also warned of disruptions to regional and long-distance rail services. Travel experts advise checking with providers for updates and considering flexible travel plans.

Additional strike action is expected on March 16, potentially extending disruptions through March 20.

For those unable to postpone travel, experts recommend flying to nearby airports like Nice or Zurich and taking a train to Italy. They also suggest carrying extra cash due to potential issues with ATMs and contacting airlines via social media for quicker rebooking assistance.
