Slovenia To Launch A New Digital Nomad Visa This Year

Slovenia is joining the growing list of European countries welcoming remote workers by launching its very own digital nomad visa.
Starting 21 November 2025, non-EU and non-EEA nationals will be able to apply for a one-year permit to live and work remotely from this beautiful and affordable country.
To qualify, you must work only for companies or clients based outside Slovenia. That means you can’t take on local jobs or provide services to Slovenian businesses. If you’re employed by a foreign company or work as a freelancer with international clients, you're on the right track.
Please be aware that if you break these rules, your visa may be cancelled, which could affect your ability to re-enter Slovenia in the future.
You’ll also need to show that you can support yourself and any family members who come with you. This includes submitting documents like recent payslips, contracts, or bank statements. The minimum income requirement hasn’t been announced yet, but you'll need to prove you can live comfortably without working locally.
Family members are welcome to join you under the visa, but they’re also not allowed to work for Slovenian employers during their stay.
What You Need to Know
Applying is expected to be simple. You’ll be able to submit your application either online or at your nearest Slovenian embassy or consulate. The visa is valid for 12 months and cannot be renewed immediately. If you want to return, you’ll need to spend at least six months outside Slovenia before applying again.
This is Slovenia’s first official visa aimed at digital nomads.
The government hopes it will attract international talent and boost long-term tourism. With a lower cost of living than neighbours like Italy and Austria, it’s an appealing option for many. Plus, cities such as Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Kranj, and Koper offer great infrastructure for remote workers, including coworking spaces and family-friendly environments.
If you’ve been dreaming of working from the heart of Europe with mountain views and charming towns at your doorstep, Slovenia might just be your next remote work destination.
