EU Travel: EU Recommends To Remove All Covid Restrictions
In a statement, the Council of the European Union calls on member states to remove any restrictions on travel on the grounds of public health and enable the full freedom of movement within the bloc.
Spain was the final EU country to drop its COVID entry requirements in October.
While no restrictions remain, this ensures no new restrictions will be imposed if the situation stays unchanged. However, the recommendations keep a number of safeguards in case of a deteriorating situation.
The Council has announced that it has adopted amendments to the recommendations on travel to the EU and on facilitating the freedom of movement in the EU during the COVID-19 pandemic, through which they have advised the Member States to refrain from imposing any new restrictions.
“Under the new recommendations, Member States should not impose any restrictions on travel on the grounds of public health. However, the recommendations keep a number of safeguards in case of a deteriorating epidemiological situation,”

Future Of Free Movement Around The Bloc
The Council pointed out that in case the epidemiological situation worsens, and the Member States have the need to address the situation, coordinate appropriate restrictions which may include vaccination, proof of recovery, or testing.
It also noted that if the pandemic worsens or new strains emerge in countries outside the EU, pre-departure requirements and temporary restrictions may be necessary.
Under the new recommendations, it is likely that the EU will remain restriction-free unless cases rise in certain countries or regions or new strains of concern emerge.
