Rhodes Greece: Free Getaways for Those Affected by Wildfires
Greece is offering free trips to tourists whose vacations have been cut short due to wildfires.
The ‘state of emergency' issued by Greek authorities in Rhodes on July 26th due to wildfires has officially been lifted.
The Greek government is now working with tourism bodies and local authorities on a wider plan to restore travel and support local residents and businesses on the island after active fires were extinguished and the state of operational emergency was lifted.
On 2 August, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told ITV’s Good Morning Britain that he recognised the inconvenience the fires had caused for visitors.
Anyone whose holiday ended early is, according to the prime minister, entitled to a free week.
“For all those whose holiday was cut short as a result of wildfires, the Greek government in cooperation with local authorities will offer one week of free holidays on Rhodes, next spring, the next fall, so that we make sure they come back to the island and enjoy its natural beauty.”

There are no details yet on how the offer will work or whether flights will be included, but it appears that the prime summer season will be excluded.
Greece is a popular tourist destination for people from all over the world, including a significant number of British holidaymakers.
Is It Safe to Travel to Rhodes This Summer?
Greek officials and tourism bodies have reassured travellers that the South Aegean island is now ready to welcome them back.
The tourism ministry stated that residents and the Greek state were “looking forward to continuing to offer their care and unique hospitality to foreign visitors”.
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, Greece relies greatly on tourism, accounting for 18.5% of the national GDP.
Greece offers a diverse range of experiences, from exploring ancient archaeological sites like the Acropolis in Athens to relaxing on the picturesque islands of Santorini, Mykonos, and Rhodes.
