Spain To Scrap Public Transport Mask Rule
Spain is the UK’s leading holiday destination and millions of British holidaymakers travel there every year.
Spain announced its plan to end the public transport facemask rule. On 26 January, Spanish Health Minister Carolina Darias confirmed that face masks would no longer be compulsory on public transport, a measure that has been in place in Spain for almost three years.
“I will raise the proposal of eliminating the mandatory use of masks on public transport”, she said, adding that next week she will convene with the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System to “put this measure into effect”.

The minister said that Spain is now in a stable place with Covid and health services had proposed lifting the restriction. However, masks are expected to remain compulsory in health facilities such as hospitals and care homes.
“I’ll bring the proposal to scrap the obligation to wear masks in public transportation to the cabinet meeting to be held on February 7.”

The use of masks ceased to be mandatory outdoors last February 2022.
Tourists arriving in Spain don’t need to show proof of vaccination or take a Covid test to visit Spain unless they’re arriving from China.
Strike Action In The Coming Days
Spanish trade unions in Spain affiliated with Air Traffic Control workers have decided to call a strike in 16 Spanish airports where the control towers are privatised.
The affected airports are:
- Ibiza,
- A Coruña,
- Alicante-Elche,
- Castellón,
- Cuatro Vientos,
- El Hierro,
- Fuerteventura,
- Jerez,
- Lanzarote,
- La Palma,
- Lleida,
- Murcia,
- Sabadell,
- Seville,
- Valencia
- Vigo
The strikes will take place on January 30 and February 6, 13, 20, and 27.
The unions have said that “the system cannot function based on the efforts of a fatigued workforce and with constant cuts in rights consolidated in the past.”
Travellers are advised to contact airlines to confirm flight status before departure on the said dates. Arrive at airports early to prevent your seat from being allocated to a standby passenger.
