Sweden Fast-Tracks EU Blue Card Processing
In a bold move to attract and retain skilled talent, Sweden has significantly slashed the processing time for EU Blue Card applications. Now, qualified applicants can expect to wait just 30 days for approval, down from the previous 90-day timeline.
This change aims to draw more high-skilled workers to Sweden, addressing labour shortages across multiple sectors and helping businesses stay competitive on the global stage.
The faster processing time will also benefit foreign workers seeking Intra-corporate Transferee Permits or research positions in Sweden, making it easier for skilled professionals to make career moves without the long wait. For Sweden, the reduced wait times mean highly qualified employees can get to work sooner, easing workforce shortages and boosting productivity in fields needing expertise.
These updates, however, apply only to those who submit fully accurate and complete applications, as incomplete submissions might still face delays of up to four months. The new timeline could bring meaningful change to the Swedish labour market, ensuring that businesses can better adapt to their needs and retain talent by streamlining the immigration process.
Note: Applicants seeking roles in industries that don’t align with Sweden’s 4-tier system for skills may not qualify for the reduced processing time, even if they meet all other EU Blue Card criteria.
Lower Salary Requirements Open Doors for More Talent
In a further bid to attract top talent, Sweden has announced plans to lower the salary threshold for EU Blue Card applicants.
Starting August 2024, foreign professionals applying to work in Sweden will be required to earn approximately €866 less per month than the current minimum. This change aims to make Sweden more accessible to international talent while keeping wages competitive within the EU.
