The Netherlands Lifted Remaining Travel Restrictions
The Netherlands has ended its remaining pandemic-era entry restrictions for international travellers.
The Dutch Government announced that as of 17 September 2022, it will drop all the remaining Covid-19 travel restrictions and requirements. This decision applies to all travellers, including those travelling into the Netherlands from outside the EU/Schengen area.
“Given the current epidemiological situation in the Netherlands, the government feels that for entry to the Netherlands the EU entry ban is no longer proportional.”
A statement by the Dutch government
The decision means that unvaccinated travellers from all countries will be able to enter the Netherlands without proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test. The move is set to increase the stream of tourists coming to the Netherlands as more people will be able to explore the country without any stress or worry.
The Netherlands kept their Covid protocols for travellers in place much longer than the majority of European countries.
Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport Woes
Most travellers who visit the Netherlands go to the nation’s capital, Amsterdam.
Unfortunately, the city’s airport was woefully underprepared for the sudden rebound of travellers during summer. As a result, Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport had a rough time with flight delays and cancellations and it doesn’t look like it will get much better for travellers interested in visiting this fall.
The airport announced on 16 September, that it would reduce daily passenger counts by 18% through the end of October due to its labour shortage. The airport is one of the busiest in the world and is a significant transfer hub for many major airlines.
