Denmark Work Permit: No Work Permit Needed For Artists, Musicians & Performers For Short-Term Events
The Danish authorities have published that artists, musicians, and other performers participating in short-term events will no longer be subject to the requirement of a work permit.
According to the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI), the decision has taken effect and will apply to everybody who has not already received a guiding statement on whether they are exempt from the requirement of a work permit.
“SIRI has changed its practice concerning when an artist, musician, performer etc. and associated staff may be exempt from the requirement of a work permit. This means that the event in which the artist, musician etc. will be participating must now be short-term in order for the artist to be exempt from the requirement of a work permit,”
SIRI published statement
As a rule, the event must not last longer than 14 days in order for the artists, musicians, and other performers to be exempt from the requirement of a work permit. In cases when an event has a longer duration, SIRI will be responsible for assessing it and deciding not to exempt artists from the requirement.
“The change of practice has been done in order to align administrative practice with the original intention of the law,”
SIRI published statement
Who Are Qualified to be Exempted
Artists, musicians, and other performers wishing to be exempted from the work permit requirement must be the focal point of the event or at least be of major significance for the event.
Additionally, the artistic event can be part of a tour or take the form of one or more single events and necessary staff might also be exempt from the work permit requirement.
The necessary staff includes staff that follows the artist, such as the manager, make-up artists, dressers, sound and light staff, and tour bus drivers, among others.
