Gibraltar May Join The Schengen Zone
Gibraltar could be added to the EU’s borderless Schengen area. A border-free area is an area that guarantees EU citizens to move freely in the Schengen zone. Even non-EU nationals can get access to any area that falls under the Schengen countries.
The Minister for Tourism and Business, Vijay Daryanani, told The Telegraph a treaty allowing freedom of movement between Gibraltar and the EU would likely be sealed “within the coming months”.
Mr. Daryanani also stated that the deal could bring huge benefits to people both within Gibraltar and in Spain but stressed there would be no impact on sovereignty.
Currently, Gibraltar is not part of the EU or Schengen Area. Visitors must comply with the territory's immigration rules, which are very similar to those of the UK. Visa-free entry is possible for many travellers, including citizens of EU and Schengen countries

Benefits of the Treaty
According to Mr. Daryanani, the treaty would mean 16,000 people who cross the border daily to work in Gibraltar’s hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses would be able to travel into the territory without passport checks.
“It would mean 16,000 citizens of Spain who daily cross the border to work in Gibraltar’s hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses would be able to travel into the territory without passport checks. We have more jobs than people; we need them to come and work in Gibraltar,”

Gibraltar's Officials state that the Gibraltarians spend a lot of money in the Spanish area. Spanish people are economically dependent on Gibraltar for a number of sectors. Thus, it is highly necessary that travelling between the two countries continues.
