Singapore Allows Quarantine Free Travel

Singapore Allows Quarantine Free Travel

Visiting Singapore will soon be a relative breeze for many travellers who have been previously hindered by strict COVID-19 guidelines.

From 22 February, passengers arriving in Singapore will no longer need to take a PCR test or isolate on arrival. Instead, travellers will need to only take one supervised self-swab at an official testing centre within 24 hours of arrival in the city-state.

The new rules are applicable to all fully vaccinated travellers whose country of origin is part of the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL).

The Vaccinated Travel Lane is a special Singapore travel corridor open to passengers from

  • Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Denmark, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Maldives, The Netherlands, Republic of Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the UK and the US.

From 25 February, the list will include Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The new ruling also affects travellers hopping between countries on the VTL list.

At present, visitors to Singapore need to have remained in a Vaccinated Travel Lane country for 14 days prior to their arrival but now this has been cut down to just seven days in a bid to make it easier for holidaymakers and business travellers alike.

Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP)

All travellers must have been fully vaccinated and present their proof of vaccination. An individual is considered fully vaccinated 14 days after he or she has received the full regimen of Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty, Moderna, AstraZeneca or other World Health Organisation Emergency Use Listing.

The Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP) allows visitors entry into Singapore without the requirement to undergo the usual 7-day quarantine.

Requests to obtain the VTP must be made between 3 and 60 calendar days prior to travellers’ intended date of entry into Singapore.

Future Travel To Singapore

Expect Singapore to drop restrictions for other countries in the coming months as officials this week stated that they intend to scrap testing vaccinated travellers once the omicron wave has flattened.

“Instead of having vaccinated travel lanes or VTLs with selected countries that we think are low risk, we should actually allow Stay Home Notice-free travel for fully-vaccinated travellers from all countries,”

“We should make this transition not now, but after omicron wave has peaked and start to subside.”

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung

Singapore’s hardline approach to border control during the pandemic has been effective. Last week, its government reported that it had prevented over 8,000 COVID-19 deaths in the last five months of 2021, keeping its COVID-19 death rate to 15.7 deaths per 100,000 of the population.
