British Holidaymakers: Avoid Flying To Portugal In August

Holidaymakers planning to visit Portugal have been issued a travel warning due airport strike this month which can severely affect travel plans.

Travellers to Portugal could be subject to delays or flight cancellations at the end of this month after the civil aviation workers from Portugal’s Civil Aviation Workers’ Union (SINTAC) plan industrial action on 26-28 August 2022.

Airport workers are planning to strike for three days, while the action that will take place in different airports in Portugal could lead to travel chaos and highly affect those who plan to visit the country.

The strike notice involves the workers of Portway, managed by ANA [Airports of Portugal] at Lisbon, Porto, Faro, and Funchal airports. The notice foresees the general stoppage of workers of the ground assistance company starting at 00:00 on August 26 and ending at 24:00 on August 28.

“At issue is the HR [human resources] policy adopted over the last few years by Portway, a company owned by the VINCI Group, of confrontation and devaluation of workers through consecutive breaches of the Company Agreement, disciplinary confrontation, lack of salary updates, misrepresentation of performance appraisals that prevent salary progressions and bad faith in negotiations,”

Statement from the Union
