Summer Travel: Amsterdam Schiphol Airport To Extend Passenger Cap
Travellers looking to visit Amsterdam or transit through Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) anytime soon could get slightly more than they bargained for after it was announced there will be additional passenger limits throughout May.
This news follows last month's announcement by the airport's interim CEO, Ruud Sondag stating that there would be no capacity limits on the spring holidays.
The airport will set a cap that will roughly cut the number of departing passengers by 5,000 each day. For the majority of the affected period, the airport hopes to solely apply the decreased cap between the hours of 06:00 and 13:00 every day.
A passenger cap has remained in place since last May to combat staff shortages.
The existing cap was originally expected to run until March. The extended cap will be a real blow for airlines currently gearing up for the holiday period.
This can result in lengthier waits and longer delays during the holiday rush.

Big Changes to Amsterdam's Red Light District
The atmosphere in Amsterdam’s red light district might feel a little different the next time you pay a visit to the Dutch capital.
In a move intended to eliminate “nuisances” and improve the quality of life for the city’s residents, Amsterdam’s city council has announced a number of changes will soon take place.
Chief among them is that it will soon be illegal to smoke Cannabis on the street. However, this won’t affect the sale of Cannabis at coffee shops or patrons smoking their purchases while seated on those shops’ terraces.
Other changes include further restricting the sale of alcohol in the Red Light District.
The new laws will take effect in mid-May.
