Travel Safety Warning: British Holidaymakers Going To Spain
British holidaymakers aiming to travel to mainland Europe this summer are being urged to check in with operators before starting their trip.
A warning has been put in place for those travelling to Spain from the UK as the Foreign Office changes its guidance. On 17 July, a new alert was issued for anyone visiting Spain.
“Extreme temperatures are currently affecting many areas of Spain. For severe weather warnings and updates, visit the Spanish Meteorological Office (AEMET) and European Meteorological Services website.

The Foreign Office is also warning that there is a risk of travel disruption due to the heatwave, urging travellers to:
- monitor local and international weather updates on the NHS website or the website of the Spanish Ministry of Health (only available in Spanish).
- check with your travel provider
- follow the advice of local authorities at all times

Spain’s Extreme Weather
Temperatures have soared above 40 degrees in the southern Spanish city of Granada while Seville is also set to see temperatures in the 40s this week.
Madrid has also seen high temperatures while other countries including Italy and Greece have been affected.
Similar warnings are in place for people travelling to Greece, which has experienced dangerously hot conditions as temperatures reached above 40 degrees over the weekend.
Some holidaymakers in both countries have even been evacuated due to wildfires.
