Canada Vaccine Mandate for International and Domestic Travellers
The Canadian government announced on 06 October that domestic and international travellers arriving in the country via commercial flight, train or cruise ship must be fully vaccinated.
According to the official website of Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed that all travellers 12 years of age and older entering or departing the country via federally regulated modes of transportation must be fully vaccinated by 30 October.

This means that unvaccinated travellers have until the end of the month to get vaccinated or they won’t be able to take off.
For the first month, travellers will be able to substitute a negative COVID-19 test for proof of vaccination, but that exemption will end on 30 November. There will continue to be medical exemptions, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said they will be rare and anyone who can, should get vaccinated.
The only exception to the rule would be emergency travel and those medically unable to be vaccinated.
Canada’s Approved Vaccines
Currently, Health Canada has four approved vaccines against COVID-19:
- AstraZeneca Vaxzevria,
- Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty,
- Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)
- and Moderna Spikevax
Those who falsify information or otherwise fail to comply with the new federal vaccine policy are likely to face fines. Air passengers face up to $5000 per violation. Cruise passengers can face up to $250,000 per day for violating the rules.
In a news conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that “for the vast, vast majority of people, the rules are very simple, to travel, you’ve got to be vaccinated.”
Canada intends to implement a vaccine passport that travellers will be able to use to show proof of vaccination for non-Canadians. The government says the pan-Canadian vaccine passport will be in a digital format, and it will make showing proof of vaccination “easy and quick” for travellers.
