Australia to Welcome Top Overseas Talent
The Australian government is planning to attract a large number of skilled workers from other countries during the next ten months, as it plans to launch a new visa for top talents from other countries.
Hundreds of overseas workers could be welcomed to Australia in the next months, under travel exemptions for holders of a government visa created to aid the post-pandemic recovery.
Since the beginning of the global pandemic, Australia imposed one of the strictest measures in order to halt the spread of the virus by banning foreign nationals from entering Australia. This has intensified the skills shortages in some key industries and services.
This government’s initiatives to bring top talent to Australia are cementing our economic recovery. Returning Australians remains the priority, however, this automatic travel exemption recognizes the importance of significant investment.
Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews
Skills Needed in Australia
The automatic exemption for skilled non-Australians will be restricted to businesses deemed by the Global Business and Attraction Taskforce as likely to make a significant contribution to the economy, including investment value and job creation potential. This means people having high investment value and job creation potential will be given priority.
Arrivals will still need to meet all standard health requirements and quarantine protocols, as administered by states and territories.
These visa holders are bringing the skills, investment, and new ideas that employ Australians and keep us internationally competitive for years to come. They’re adding to our economy, generating new jobs, and contributing to our tax base so we can continue to provide the essential services all Australians rely on.

Australia On Track to Open Before End Christmas
Australia closed its borders to non-residents in March 2020 and employed a mandatory quarantine system, which severely limited the number of people who could return to the country each week.
According to Tourism Minister Dan Tehan, Australia is on track to allow borders to reopen by Christmas.
As of 22 September, about 38% of Australians had received both doses of a coronavirus vaccine.
