Israelis Can Now Apply for ESTA Under the Visa Waiver Program

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that Israeli passport holders will be able to apply for the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) starting October 19, 2023.

On September 27, 2023, the United States welcomed Israel to its Visa Waiver Programme. The original effective date for Israelis' eligibility for ESTA was November 30, 2023, but given the closure of the US embassy and consulate in Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, it appears that DHS has decided to move the date up to allow Israelis to apply for the ability to travel to the US.

Israeli citizens with a biometric passport will now be able to travel to the US by applying for an ESTA application up to 72 hours before their trip

Applicants should visit the ESTA website to apply.

If approved, they will be able to stay for up to 90 days on tourist or business trips without first obtaining a US visa.

Israelis who still have valid visas may continue to use them until they expire. Those above the age of 18 without a biometric passport are not eligible for an ESTA application.

Those who are deemed ineligible for travel through ETA may still apply for a regular visa to enter the US.
