Japan and Luxembourg Launch Working Holiday Program
Japan and Luxembourg have established a bilateral program that permits citizens of both countries to travel and work in each other's nations for up to one year.
Under this program, Luxembourg citizens aged 18 to 30 can visit Japan for a year and work while they stay. Similarly, Japanese citizens within the same age range can spend a year in Luxembourg and work during their stay, with an annual limit of 100 visas issued to Japanese nationals.
Working Holiday Agreements are designed to promote cultural exchange and give participants the opportunity to fund their travels through temporary employment, all while immersing themselves in a new culture.
The Japanese Working Holiday visa is available to Luxembourg nationals who are residents at the time of application. Applicants must provide proof of sufficient funds, approximately €1,900, to support themselves during their stay and are required to leave Japan when their stay concludes.
Similar requirements are also applied to Japanese nationals planning to travel to Luxembourg through this program.
Luxembourg has the highest per capita gross domestic product in the world. According to the International Monetary Fund, Luxembourg's per capita GDP in 2024 is projected to exceed $130,000, far surpassing Japan's figure of around $33,000.
Luxembourg is now the 30th destination where Japanese citizens can participate in the working holiday program. The recent depreciation of the yen has made earning foreign currencies more attractive, driving greater interest among Japanese individuals in pursuing international work opportunities.
