New Zealand Sets 2022 Reopening Date For Tourists
New Zealand announced cautious plans to reopen its borders in recent days but it's still months before tourists are allowed back.
After almost two years of closed borders, New Zealand has set its official reopening date of 30 April 2022 for fully vaccinated international travellers.
New Zealand’s COVID-19 response minister Chris Hipkins announced in a news conference that fully vaccinated international travellers would be allowed to enter the country, provided they self-isolate for seven days upon arrival and be tested negative prior to departure and upon arrival.
Travellers can self-isolate wherever they choose, instead of staying in state quarantine facilities.
Hipkins said that managed isolation would still be present for the foreseeable future.
We will eventually reach a point where people will be able to move much more freely across the border and those periods of self-isolation won’t be required. We’re not at that point yet.

New Zealand’s Citizens and Residents Outside the Country
Additionally, vaccinated New Zealanders and those who hold New Zealand residence visas who are living in Australia can now enter New Zealand from 17 January 2022.
Vaccinated citizens and residents living in other countries will be allowed to return on 14 February 2022.
A phased approach to reconnecting with the world is the safest approach to ensure risk is carefully managed. This reduces any potential impacts on vulnerable communities and the New Zealand health system.
