Urgent Travel Warning Issued In 16 Countries
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO) has issued a new warning for travellers to the Middle East following escalated tensions in the region.
In light of the recent drone attack on Israel by Iran, those planning to visit destinations including Morocco and the United Arab Emirates are strongly advised to check travel advice before their trip.
The FCD) said there was ‘rising tension between Iran and Israel’ and said any military action could escalate quickly and could pose risks for the wider region’.
Travellers are urged to closely monitor this travel advice alongside other media since the situation is rapidly changing. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office's social media channels on Twitter and Instagram can be followed for updates.
Email notifications can also be subscribed to for changes in this travel advice.
Those planning to visit Oman, Morocco, Qatar, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Yemen, Iraq, Algeria, or Bahrain are strongly advised to thoroughly check the latest situation before proceeding with their journey.
UK officials warn that British tourists are at particular risk in these areas, stating:
“There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. You should remain vigilant at all times.”
“UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack. Find out how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad.”
The Foreign Office has issued a warning, stating that a terror attack is ‘likely' and could occur indiscriminately, including at locations frequented by foreigners.
