5 Christmas Markets In The UK That You Need To Visit
The entire world starts decking up magically every year around this time. Christmas markets are a staple of festive activities and it's good to know where the best spots are to take in the festive atmosphere.
For those in need of some festive cheer as the nights grow colder, whether it's a short trip up the road or a weekend adventure, here are 5 Christmas markets you need to visit in the UK.
London
The iconic Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park has returned and will remain open until 2 January. With the largest open-air ice rink in the country, a giant Ferris wheel, ice slides and heart-pounding rides, a Bavarian village, and countless street food stalls, visitors can soak up the festive atmosphere.
Winter Wonderland is open daily from 10 am to 10 pm (except Christmas Day) until 02 January and the last entry is at 9.30 pm. Visitors must purchase an entry ticket and enter during their allocated time slot.
Bath
After two years of pandemic-related disruption, Bath’s wondrous Christmas market is back from 24 November to 11 December.
Dubbed one of the most Instagrammable Christmas Markets in the world, browse through the handmade toys and Christmas decorations and end the evening with eggnog and mince pies from one of the many delectable food stalls.
Opening Hours are:
Monday – Wednesday – 10 am to 7 pm
Thursday – Saturday – 10 am to 8 pm
Sunday – 10 am to 6 pm
Stratford upon Avon
Stratford upon Avon’s traditional Victorian Christmas market is only around for four days, so if you want to enjoy the festivities, you’ll need to be quick about it.
It will run from 8 to 11 December and will see over 300 stalls pop up between Waterside and Henley Street.
This unique themed event will see stall holders dressed for the occasion in Victorian period costume, with hundreds of stalls offering delicious food and quirky Christmas gifts.
Opening hours are:
Thursday, December 8 – 10 am to 8 pm
Friday, December 9 – 10 am to 8 pm
Saturday, December 10 – 10 am to 8 pm
Sunday, December 11 – 10 am to 5 pm
Edinburgh
Edinburgh’s Christmas Market is back, marking the official start of the festive period.
The festive extravaganza offers market stalls, Santa land and the big Christmas Wheel with stunning views. Alongside an illuminated ferris wheel and expansive ice rink, there are over 70 stalls selling all manner of festive treats, from unique baubles to creamy hot chocolate.
It officially opened on 25 November and will end its run on 01 January 2023. Meanwhile, the ice rink in George Street will run until January 3, 2023.
Birmingham
The largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany is Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market. It offers a large range of traditional goods and gifts and a selection of tempting food and drink.
You can also enjoy the popular Lightopia light trail which boasts a series of stunning sculptures and a spectacular light display over the lake.
It opens daily from 10 am – 9 pm until 23 December 2022.
