Brazil Visa Requirements For Australian, Canadian, and US Citizens
Brazil continues to captivate the hearts of millions of travellers each year as a sought-after destination. However, as of April 10, 2024, visitors from Australia, Canada, and the United States will once again need to secure a visa before departing to Brazil.
This is following the reintroduction of visa requirements by the Brazilian government.
In 2019, Brazil initially waived visa requirements for travellers from these three countries, allowing stays of up to 90 days for leisure, transit, or business purposes. Originally slated to conclude in October 2023, this visa waiver period has been extended until April 2024.
In addition, visa applicants are required to provide proof that they have at least $2,000 in available funds at the time of their visa interview at a Brazilian consulate.
This precautionary measure, set by the Brazilian government, aims to ensure that visitors have access to a minimum of $150 per day to cover their expenses throughout their stay.
Proof of financial assets can include:
- Bank statements containing the account holder’s name, current balance, and transactions from the last 3 months;
- International credit card statements containing the card holder’s name, available credit limit, and transactions from the last 3 months; and/or
- Last three months' pay slips
The Brazilian government indicated that visa requirements for these countries will be lifted when new reciprocity arrangements are in place.
