Taiwan To Resume Visa Free Entry To Some Countries

Authorities in Taiwan have announced that the country will resume visa-free entry for travellers from some countries, but will maintain a three-day quarantine requirement.

From 12 September, arrivals from more than 60 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Canada and Australia are eligible for visa-free entry. Although the duration of their permitted stay varies.

Taiwan had kept its entry and quarantine rules in place as large parts of the rest of Asia have relaxed or lifted them completely, though in June it cut the number of days spent in isolation for arrivals to three from seven previously. It has also ended pre-departure negative PCR tests requirement.

Throughout the pandemic, Taiwanese and foreign residents have never been prohibited from leaving and then re-entering, though have had to quarantine either at home or in hotels.

Countries That Need Visa To Taiwan

Foreign nationals who wish to travel to Taiwan but do not meet the requirements for visa-exempt entry should ensure that their purpose of travel is among the reasons for entry currently allowed by the Central Epidemic Command Centre (CECC).

Travellers must prepare relevant documents and apply for a special entry permit (visa) at an R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.

A cap on the total number of arrivals remains in place and inbound passengers are still required to follow current CECC regulations of three days of home quarantine and four days of self-initiated pandemic prevention.

Currently, Taiwan has suspended visa-exempt entry to the following countries:

Chile
Dominican Republic
Israel
Japan
Republic of Korea
Nicaragua
Singapore
Malaysia
Thailand
Brunei
Philippines
Russia
