DiscoverEU 2022: EU to Award 35,000 Travel Pass To Young People For Autumn
The EU Commission is releasing the DiscoverEU autumn call, inviting young people to explore Europe by train.
Since its inauguration in 2018, the DiscoverEU project has awarded over 165 000 travel passes to young people, being integrated into the Erasmus+ project in 2021.
This year, the allocation of the 70,000 free passes will be done in two batches, to allow people born later in the year to also benefit from the programme.
The first 35,000 tickets were given in April.
Now, another batch of 35,000 young adults will receive a rail pass to explore Europe and its rich culture. The call is open to applicants from the Erasmus+ programme countries, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey.
Application Now Open
To try winning a travel pass, young people can apply on the European Youth Portal, where they will have to answer five quiz questions and a subsidiary one about European culture and history.
Besides answering the quiz, applicants must also fill in an identity card, passport or legal residence card number on the online application form.
Applicants who have successfully filled in the selection quiz and who are born between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2004, will be able to travel in Europe for up to 30 days between 1 March 2023 and 29 February 2024. Those turning 18 in the first half of next year will be able to apply for the March 2023 round.
Recipients of the travel pass will additionally receive a DiscoverEU discount card, which provides reduced rates for public transport, culture, accommodation, food, and other services. The card aims to make it easier for those on a limited budget to travel widely.
The programme is open for applications from 11 October 2022, at 12:00 (CEST) to 25 October 2022, at 12:00 (CEST).
