Travel Chaos 2023: Heathrow Strikes For Summer 2023
Heathrow Airport is expecting major delays and possible flight cancellations this summer due to union strikes.
Around 2,000 security officers will be taking part in the strikes due to a long-running dispute over pay. Heathrow security officers are paid less than workers at other major airports in London and the South East.
Staff at London's Heathrow Airport were set to strike for 31 days starting 24 June however it was postponed after receiving an improved pay offer and this will give time for the union members to vote on the latest pay deal.
The strikes will still go ahead if the pay offer is rejected.
New Strike Dates
The strikes at Heathrow will take place on the following dates:
- June 28, 29 and 30
- July 14 to 16, 21 to 24, and 28 to 31
- August 4 to 7, 11 to 14, 18 to 20, and 24 to 27
The strike dates overlap with the UK school holidays, Eid festival, and August bank holiday which will likely lead to further delays and fewer seat availabilities on running flights.
Passengers of affected flights should refer to their booking terms and conditions to see if they are eligible for compensation.
The strike action will affect Terminals 3 and 5. The terminals are the base for many international carriers including American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and British Airways.
