British Passports Embrace King’s Name
For the first time in more than 70 years, the wording on British passports is going to change. British passports will be issued in King Charles III's name.
The updated passports are the latest stage in the gradual transition in reigns, with stamps and some coins now carrying the King's head. Banknotes will begin to change next year.
The new passports will now carry the words: “His Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of His Majesty…”
“For 70 years, Her Majesty has appeared on British passports and many of us will not remember a time when she did not feature. Today marks a significant moment in UK history.”
Home Secretary Suella Braverman
The first page of the new document contains a representation of the royal arms and will now read:
“His Britannic Majesty’s Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of His Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance, and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary.”

Do You Need To Renew Your Passport?
Existing passports are valid until they expire, so there is no need to rush to renew your passport solely because of the change in the monarch. Travel plans can proceed without any hasty paperwork.
The old style will be phased out until all remaining stock featuring “Her Majesty” is exhausted.
When your passport expires and you apply for renewal, you will receive a new one in King Charles III's name and other changes reflecting the current reign.
The one person who will not need a passport is the King himself. While he did as the Prince of Wales, he no longer needs one as sovereign because they are issued in his name.
