“Remember remember the fifth of November…”
Guy Fawkes Day, which is also called Bonfire Night.
Do you know that Guy Fawkes was a real person? Better speaking, Fawkes was the major conspirator of the Gunpowder Plot. Fawkes and his fellows managed to get 36 barrels of gunpowder into a cellar of the House of Lords.
Some Catholics, most famously Guy Fawkes, plotted to blow up James I, raised as a protestant and the first of the Stuart kings of England. In the Eighty Years War, Fawkes took the side of the Catholic Spanish over the Protestant Dutch.
Fawkes was arrested on November 5, 1605.
The story is remembered each November 5th when ‘Guys’ are burn in a celebration known as “Bonfire Night”.
Definitely, it was a dramatic moment in English history.
