Israel Launches Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA-IL) for Visa-Exempt Travellers
Starting January 2025, visa-exempt travellers to Israel must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA-IL) before arrival.
This requirement excludes Israeli citizens and those with Israeli identity numbers.
The new rule enhances national security and streamlines immigration processes by pre-screening visitors.
ETA-IL applies to all travellers from visa-exempt countries including dual passport holders who must register by December 31, 2025 and then they will need an ETA-IL.
Application Requirements
Travellers must apply for ETA-IL online at least 72 hours before arrival, providing:
- Passport details (from a visa-exempt country).
- Valid email address.
- Payment of the registration fee.
Most applicants receive immediate approval via email, though some cases may take up to 72 hours.
Validity and Usage
- Duration: The ETA-IL is valid for two years or until the associated passport expires, whichever comes first.
- Stay Limit: Permit stays of up to 90 days. Extensions must be requested through the Population and Immigration Authority.
How to Apply
- Fill out personal details (name, birthdate, nationality).
- Provide travel information, including the purpose and duration of the visit.
- Upload passport details and a clear photo.
Applications should be submitted several weeks before travel. Passports must be valid for at least six months at the time of application.
The ETA-IL does not guarantee entry but allows travellers to proceed to border control for final approval.
This new system aims to balance security and convenience for visitors to Israel while ensuring efficient border management.
