Singapore Expands Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL)

Singapore Expands Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL)

Singapore welcomes more vaccinated air travellers as it expands the travel scheme.

At present, Singapore is one of the toughest countries for foreigners to visit. Having remained virtually sealed off from the rest of the world for the best part of the pandemic, and only allowing pre-approved travellers arriving from specific countries.

The Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) allows fully vaccinated travellers to enter Singapore without quarantine. Travellers must test Covid-19 negative before departure for Singapore and take another test within 24 hours of their arrival.

Vaccinated air travellers from specific cities in Malaysia, Indonesia and India will be able to enter Singapore without undergoing quarantine.

From 16 March, VTL will be extended to Penang Malaysia, Denpasar in Bali and all Indian cities.

Singapore also added Greece and Vietnam to the list which will be enforced on 16 March 2022.

Future of Singapore's VTL

It has been reported that Singapore is currently making preparations to officially abolish its most restrictive Covid entry curbs, including the Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VLTs) once the current wave of Covid infection peaks.

Additionally, the country’s Health Minister Ong Ye Kung gave a strong indication that the whole VLT system may soon be scrapped, as it is time for the country to “move on”.

While a date for the termination of the VLT list is yet to be announced, Ong did offer an insight into when that might possibly happen, and it could actually be sooner than expected.
