Diversity Visa 2025: Green Card Lottery Results Announced

The US Department of State has unveiled the lucky winners of the Fiscal Year 2025 Diversity Visa (DV)/Green Card Lottery.

The winners of this lottery will be granted a visa that will allow them to reside and work within the United States. The State Department oversees the lottery administration, determines the random winners and issues visas.

With over 20 million applicants globally each year vying for just 55,000 visas, the competition is fierce. Typically, successful applicants must pass a rigorous visa interview, with more than 50% ultimately granted visas.

Checking Your Application Status

The results for the DV-2025 were released online on May 4 and can be officially accessed on the DV-2025 website. Applicants need to input the confirmation number received when filling out the form.

The State Department does not send direct notifications to lottery winners, so beware of emails, letters, or other communications that claim you have won the lottery as they are likely to be fraudulent.

It is advisable that candidates should keep their confirmation number handy until September 30, 2025, for future reference.

If your entry was not chosen, the status check website will state that fact.

Application Process For Diversity Visa Program

For those whose lottery entry was selected, the website will provide information on how to proceed with the permanent residence application.

Winners can apply for status adjustments or immigrant visas from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025.

According to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the application process involves filing Form I-485.

The supporting evidence required for the form are:

  • Two passport-style photos
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record
  • Copy of passport page with nonimmigrant visa (if applicable)
  • Copy of passport page with admission (entry) or parole stamp (if applicable)
  • Form I-94, Arrival/Departure Record
  • Certified copies of court records (if the individual has been arrested)
  • Copy of the principal applicant’s selection letter for the diversity visa lottery from DOS
  • Copy of the receipt from DOS for the diversity visa lottery processing fee
  • Form I-601, Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility (if applicable)
  • Applicable fees

Once all documents are prepared, you need to prepare yourself to face an Interview at the US Embassy.
