Registration For Diversity Visa Lottery FY 2025 Is Now Open

Registration For Diversity Visa Lottery FY 2025 Is Now Open

The Diversity Visa (DV) program, commonly known as the “green card lottery”, is a program administered by the US Department of State every year.

The DV lottery is a program that provides green cards or lawful permanent residence in the US via annual lottery to “diversity immigrants,” who are from countries that historically have had low rates of immigration to the United States. It issues 55,000 immigrant visas every year.

DV Electronic Registration for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 opened on October 4, 2023, and ends on November 7, 2023.

There is no cost to register, but, if selected, applicants must pay for the visa application.

Aspiring candidates should remember that filing more than one application will lead to disqualification from the program.

Individuals born in certain countries are not eligible to apply because more than 50,000 nationals of those countries have immigrated to the United States in the past five years.

The list of ineligible countries includes:

Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, including Hong Kong, SAR (natives of Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

Except for the United Kingdom, the “ineligible” list remains unchanged from last year. Citizens of the United Kingdom and its dependent territories are eligible this year.

The State Department will announce the results of the FY 2025 Diversity Visa lottery in May 2024.

Are You Eligible For  DV 2025

Only the primary applicant must meet the eligibility conditions to register an entry.

Aside from nationality, the primary applicant must possess:

  • high school education or equivalent; or
  • two years of qualifying work experience within the past five years that requires at least two years of training or experience.

Interested applicants should apply now and not wait until the last day when heavy demand could lead to website delays. Applicants must apply online.

No late or paper entries are accepted.

Non-US residents seeking to obtain a green card who are otherwise eligible may apply even if they are living abroad.
