Sweden Removes All Entry Restriction

Sweden Removes All Entry Restriction

After more than two years, Sweden has finally announced it will remove the entry ban on non-essential travel from third countries.

Last 9 February, the Swedish government removed all border restrictions for travellers from the EU, EEA or any of the Nordic countries. This means that if you travel from one of these countries directly to Sweden, you don’t have to show a Covid vaccine pass or negative test.

On 25 March, the Swedish government released a statement that the current ban on travellers from outside the EU/EEA  will not be extended. As the ban expires on March 31, 2022, this will subsequently lift all restrictions for travellers coming to Sweden from outside the EU.

From 1 April, all international travellers won’t be subject to any entry requirements to visit Sweden.

Once the new travel rule is implemented, it also means that starting 1 April, all proof of vaccination and Covid tests for entry will no longer be required to visit Sweden, regardless of what country the traveller is coming from.

Living With The Virus

Sweden removed internal restrictions throughout the country including mask-wearing and vaccine passports last 9 February 2022.

In a statement, Prime Minister Andersson explained that while the pandemic is not over, “we are heading into a new phase.”

The new approach of “living with the virus” is apparent in a number of countries throughout Europe, many of which recently eased or completely removed all Covid-related travel restrictions. This includes the neighbouring Nordic countries of Denmark, Norway, Iceland, and Finland.

And with more internal travel restrictions being dropped in countries around the world, it looks like many aspects of international travel as we know it will be back in full swing by summer 2022.
