Digital Nomad Visa: Malta’s Nomad Residence Permit

The pandemic has disrupted so much from our normal daily work however it has sparked so much interest in remote work. After being isolated at home for months, people are showing a new willingness to travel while working remotely.

More professionals are drawn to the advantage of being able to work remotely from anywhere in the world with total freedom and combining travel and professional opportunities.

Countries around the world recently introduced digital nomad visas as they understand the appeal of this growing market. Nations are recognising digital nomads as “smart tourism” and attracting them by offering connectivity and incentives.

Malta’s Nomad Residence Permit is now open to people who work remotely and who can continue to do their current jobs while residing in Malta for a year. As a European Union (EU) member state, Malta already welcomes digital nomads from the EU but this program allows applicants from non-EU countries who are eligible for a Maltese visa to take part, including individuals from the United States, the United Kingdom, and more.

The permit will be issued for one year and can be renewed upon application at the discretion of Residency Malta, as long as the applicant still meets the set eligibility criteria. Applicants who are interested in staying for less than a year will be issued with a national visa for the duration of their stay.

Although Malta is no longer paying tourists to visit like it was back in June, the digital nomad visa is an incredible opportunity for travellers to enjoy Malta beyond the tourist visa.

As a long-term visitor in Malta, you will find world-class architecture, outdoor adventures, entirely unique and rustic cuisine for all seasons.
