France Dropped Travel Restrictions For Unvaccinated UK Tourists

The UK has been moved to France's lower-risk green category in its international travel restrictions.

UK nationals who have not been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus will now be able to enter France under facilitated entry rules as the latter has decided to place the UK on the green list.

The further relaxation of France’s rules for British visitors took effect on 31 March.

The move puts the UK in line with other countries such as the US and European Union nations who can travel to France with little restrictions, presenting either proof of vaccination or, in the case of unvaccinated people, a negative test.

In recent weeks, France has relaxed other pandemic measures by suspending the vaccine pass requirement to enter indoor establishments and removing the mask mandate, with the exception of public transportation.

Changes To France's Travel Rules

Under the new rules, UK nationals who have not been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus will be permitted entry to France as long as they present a negative test result taken recently.

The French Ministry of Interior explains that the country accepts both PCR and rapid antigen tests. This means that unvaccinated Britons can either present a PCR test taken within the last 72 hours or a rapid antigen test taken within the last 48 hours in order to be permitted entry to France without having to meet any other additional measures.

The entry rules have also been facilitated for vaccinated travellers. UK nationals who have completed primary vaccination as well as those who have received an additional vaccine dose can now enter France without having to meet any additional entry rules.

France currently recognises only vaccination passes that prove that the holder has completed primary vaccination within the last nine months or has received a booster shot. Those who have been vaccinated more than nine months ago and have not received a booster shot are considered unvaccinated and thus, need to follow testing measures.
