New Zealand: Additional 200 Slots Working Holiday Visa Scheme with Spain

Last 29 November 2022, New Zealand announced it will re-open the Working Holiday Visa Scheme with Spain and expand the number of open slots for eligible applicants.

In August, the government announced that it will double the cap for all schemes in 2022. The scheme initially re-opened with 200 places available in April 2022.

Doubling caps includes schemes like Working Holiday Schemes that still had open spots and had their caps doubled on 08 September, in addition to keeping those open. Moreover, the capped schemes that had already met caps and were closed, began re-opening slightly, and are set to reopen in December.

“They will all have re-opened by early December 2022. This will ensure each country gets the benefit of this year’s allocation. This could mean up to 12,000 more working holidaymakers may come to New Zealand over the next 12 months,”

Press Release

Four larger capped schemes that resumed in September include Malaysia, Chile, Taiwan and Argentina.

On the other hand, the government has facilitated measures in order to help increase access to working holidaymakers already in New Zealand, and those looking to travel to this country.

These changes include extending the visas of working holidaymakers with visas.

Increasing the Working Holiday Scheme caps with the one-off increase to recognise the spots that were unused last year due to COVID-19 border restrictions.
