UK Visa Health Surcharge Fees Set to Increase in 2024

UK Visa Health Surcharge Fees Set to Increase in 2024

Following the recent amendments to UK visa and nationality fees, the British government has set its eyes on another substantial change, which is slated to go into force in 2024.

This upcoming change will largely affect the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which is a fee placed on any individual wishing to stay in the UK for more than six months.

This cost allows them to use NHS healthcare services while in the UK and must be paid in full at the time of visa application submission.

The upcoming price hike will see the IHS increase substantially by around 66%.

The government will increase fees for the following:

  • From £470 per year to £776 per year for children, students, their dependents, and youth mobility workers.
  • From £624 per year to £1,035 per year for all other immigration document types

The health surcharge increase will be implemented no earlier than 16 January 2024, assuming parliamentary approval.

While this increase looms on the horizon, there are some exemptions from fees and surcharges for certain groups, in particular applications for asylum or under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS). People who cannot afford to pay for family routes or child citizenship can also apply for a fee waiver.

Those who will be impacted by the IHS increase need to think ahead and plan accordingly to avoid additional costs. If you need assistance with UK Visa applications, contact IaM.
