Explore the Czech Republic’s New Digital Nomad Visa

In recent years, the digital nomad lifestyle has become a global phenomenon, offering the chance to work remotely while discovering new cultures and places. Now, the Czech Republic is stepping into the spotlight by introducing an exciting opportunity for digital nomads: the Digital Nomad Visa.

As of July 2023, the Czech Republic has rolled out its Digital Nomad Visa, designed especially for highly skilled remote workers. This visa opens the door for freelancers and remote employees to call the country home for up to one year, with the possibility of extending their stay further.

The visa's main aim is to attract proficient IT professionals, and it's currently available to citizens from eight countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA.

A Blend of Heritage and Modern Comfort

Nestled right in the heart of Europe, the Czech Republic exudes a fascinating blend of historical elegance and contemporary convenience. This Central European gem offers an incredible setting for embracing the digital nomad lifestyle, striking that perfect balance between work and exploration.

By choosing the Czech Republic, digital nomads can immerse themselves in a tapestry of culture, create cherished memories, and make progress toward their professional goals.

Perks of the Czech Digital Nomad Visa

The Czech Republic's Digital Nomad Visa introduces a streamlined pathway to an extended stay.

Initially valid for one year, visa holders can apply for a residence permit that extends their stay by two years, contingent on the completion of an adaptation-integration course.

The visa program seeks to address the country's shortage of highly skilled IT professionals while giving the local economy a boost.

Under the digital nomad program, digital nomads have two visa options. Eligible applicants can either be employed by a foreign company that permits remote work or they can operate as self-employed freelancers.

Freelancers need to secure a Czech business licence that allows them to provide contracted services to Czech companies.

Eligibility and Requirements

The Digital Nomad Visa is open to citizens of eight nations: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA.

To apply, you need a university degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, or three years of experience in the IT industry.

If you're a remote worker employed by a foreign company, you must meet the minimum income threshold of CZK 60,530 (€2,507) per month. This amount is 1.5 times the gross average salary in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, your employer should have a workforce of at least 50 employees.

As an added bonus, spouses, registered partners, and dependent children of any nationality can also secure a residence permit when applying alongside a qualifying digital nomad visa applicant. While the digital nomad visa doesn't allow dependents to work, those who seek employment in the country must apply for a separate work authorisation permit sponsored by a Czech employer.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is in charge of evaluating applications for participation in the Programme. Applications need to be sent to the following e-mail address: [email protected].

The visa costs CZK 2,500 and visa applications are handled in 45 days or less.
